Intuitive Collage

Intuitive Collage

“When you’re diagnosed with cancer, your entire life revolves around the treatment, the doctors, fellow patients and getting well. With the single-mindedness of getting better, after it was all over, I found myself asking, now what?” Cancer survivor and artist, Kathleen McKinnon

To help answer the questions and fill the gap, Kathleen turned to her heart’s passion – art. When using creativity/art to work through an issue, it’s not the product that is important, it’s the process. Things happen! Getting lost in color and texture, transports the mind and emotions to a place of wonder and curiosity far from the pressures at hand.

Kathleen has an art studio in San Luis Obispo, CA where she teaches bimonthly intuitive collage classes for cancer patients, survivors, caretakers, their friends and relatives. The classes are at no charge to the participants.

“I’m teaching these classes because I know the healing power of art. The freedom and spontaneity of intuitive collage are meant to spark introspection, inspiration, discovery and healing on a spiritual and emotional level. I consider this the most important work I can do to give back to this community that has given so much to me.”

Each class provides inspiration through poetry to reflect on pressing issues of life, trauma, and healing. Through the intuitive subconscious, images are collected and collaged to tell the story of the poetry reflections. A powerful portion of the classes is the sharing time where the discussion revolves around the collage process and what is learned from it. It sounds so simple, but it is truly magical how the images show up at just the right time and place to perfectly fit the poem and visually express feelings.
